Hi,

this large fly (12mm) was on the way to Sarcophagidae box but when it has a large subscutellum it made me wonder .... July 26.2009 Pernaja, Finland.

Estheria would be my guess Smile They are horrible sarcophagid mimics but they have that wonderful "moustache" of hairs around the vibrissae Smile

Yes, that is stalked ... not much, but it does qualify. The worst ones are species which are even shorter than that and it's almost impossible to work out if it is closed or stalked Wink Thankfully the keys usually make allowance for that Smile

Oops ... for me Estheria always was (fossile) Crustacean genus ...
