Hi,
This nice little Dolichopodid I saw yesterday evening, eating honeydew and sometimes also a honeydew producer. Can it be named?
Many thanks, Sundew

Chrysotimus molliculus (Fallén, 1823) (male)
You have already inserted dead fly into Gallery. Now you have live ones.

Dear Igor, I have one more question: The dead Chrysotimus I posted had a very crumpled abdomen; however, the colour of it was recognizably yellow with a dark tip. The fly above has metallic greenish tergites. - Today I saw a tiny Dolichopodid with just that yellow abdomen and dark tip and thought: "Now I see a living Chrysotimus!" Unfortunately, the photos are a bit blurred because it was quite windy. Now tell me, please: do these two flies belong to the same species (perhaps male and female)? Or which one is the real Chrysotimus molliculus?
Thanks again, Sundew

The females of the genus Chrysotimus generally have a yellow abdomen.

Right. I think both male and female belong to Chrysotimus molliculus (fortunately Germany has only two species so far)

Many thanks, Stefan and Igor! So I'll add a living male and female to the gallery. The dead one looks so sad...
