Hi, Yesterday I saw this small black fly on an inflorescence of wild carrot. First I thought of Phania funesta, but the wing venation does not match, as my fly has a distinct petiolus. This recalls either Phasia, which, however, has a different habitus, or Rhinophoridae, but Rhinophora lepida has not such big white calypters. Now I am at my wits' end. Help, please! Many thanks, Sundew Sundew attached the following image: ![]() [166.84Kb] Edited by Sundew on 13-07-2009 22:18 |

come here to Viseu. I would guide you so you could see Leucostoma, lots of Siphona, lots and lots of Gymnosoma, Cylindromyia and other stuff like Chaetogena, Baumhaeuria, Therobia, etc etc ![]() |

Fine - obviously it pays to take a closer look at every small black Tachinid! And Phasiinae is right, too, so wing venation led me in the right direction. - Can we get closer to a species name?

Yes and no. Leucostoma cannot be IDed from picture. Around Berlin, I'd expect only L. simplex. Theo |

So I'll put it in the gallery as Leucostoma cf. simplex. Many thanks to all of you! |
