Many keys say things like 'Eyes hairy', others are more descriptive saying things like 'Eyes densely hairy' or 'long haired' etc.

I don't know if this will work but here is the url to a small through focus movie of a fly's hairy eye, I would be interested to know how you would describe the hairyness of this eye.

Hmmm, I think I would say hairy, but not densely hairy. However, the movie does not really help one to judge the density very well. A Focus stacked still photo might be better? Smile

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
