Too pale brown for Actia ... the proboscis is hard to make out but I think it is a Siphona

in that case it could go to Siphona maculata (there is a pair of pre-sutural intra-alar bristles - if i see it right) Klaas |

it resembles maculata, certainly. Siphona is a very difficult genus and from these pictures I cannot exclude confusa, for instance. Theo |

Thank you again Theo. I thought i was lucky with this fly having that one bristle! In Belshaw, 1993 - Tachinid flies, is Siphona confusa not mentioned. Does this species have a similar bristle or do you mention it as a part of a much larger puzzle? (always curious) Klaas |

Actually, all Siphona have a prae-IA, except collini. So not much luck here, I'm afraid. Have a look at faunaeur.org and notice the number of species (i guess 15 -20). Theo |
