Is this a female Ernestia puparum, or am I mistaking? Photographed today, at the edge of a small forest at Heukelum, Netherlands.

I don't think so - no projecting mouth edge and it just looks wrong. With that shaded rm vein it should be distinctive but it isn't something I see here Smile

Not very large for a tachinid, the size of Ernestia I would say, perhaps even smaller.

You are giving paradoxal information. An Ernestia is large for a Tachinid, in my book, More than 10 mm. or about 15 mm, or less than 7 mm. would help.

I think you are right with female puparum.

I admit I'm not very good at estimating size, but I thought this fly and the only other Ernestia I have seen were not very large. But in both cases there was no other fly I could compare it with, so I'm probably wrong.

Thanks for your response, Theo!
