Very small Doli photographed in my garden in summer. Can anyone put a name to it from this one and only shot?

Rhaphium is more probable than Argyra.

Thanks Igor
I only have one species of Rhaphium on my Checklist which is R.brevicorne, but due to small size of these, others could have been overlooked.
I also only have one Argyra on my Checklist..A.perplexa.
So Rhaphium sp. maybe?
Regards Roger

The supapical arista and the silvery white coating on abdomen point to Argyra.

Certainly not R.brevicorne. A.perplexa is possible.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
