Can anyone suggest literature in which the functioning of the insect eye is explained extensively?

Thanks in advance!

Jan: Try a University level entomology text book. When I was at university I used, and still have, Chapman, R.F. 1969. The Insects - Structure and Function. It has a 30 page chapter "The Eyes and Vision" which goes into a lot of detail.
I'm sure there are newer editions of this text.
Hope this helps, Tony.
