What should I use for identifying the Lauxaniidae?
Are Seguy's keys still useful?

Thanks
Pierre-Nicolas

Hi,
Seguis keys, what is itShock? I use Shatalkin (2000), but it is in Russian. In following paper is this key in English with updating. Schacht W., Kurina O., Merz B., Gaimari S.: 2004, Zweifluger aus Bayern XXIII (Diptera: Lauxaniidae, Chamaemyiidae), Entomofauna 25: 41-80. Next work is older, bud with good pictures of genitalia: Remm E., Elberg K., 1979: Terminaly much Lauxaniidae (Diptera) najdenich v Estonii, Latvii i Litve, Dipteroloogilisi Uurimusi, Tartu, 66-117. I use papers from B. Merz for Minettia fasciata group and Homoneura, I have it on PDF, if you wand, I can sand you it.

Two Merz papers on Lauxaniidae can be downloaded here: http://www.dipter...p?cat_id=9. If that other one were available as PDF, now that would be interesting...

Thank's Katka. I must find the key somewhere. I have a lot Lauxaniidae specimens from this summer and need a new key. I believe Pierre-Nicolas is talking abouth the old Seguy's "Faune de France" series. I have some parts of it but not Lauxaniidae. (And I don't speak france Sad)

Just to prevent any misunderstanding:
The translation by Schacht et al. (2004) of the key of Shatalkin (2000) should be used together with the original key since the figures in the original key are not icluded in the translation!

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
