Hello,

yesterday at a forest path (northwest Germany), about 15-16 mm. Could it be a male Eristalis similis? I found a female at nearly the same location some weeks before: https://www.dipte..._id=112959

Hi Jürgen,

I looked at the species in Bot & de Meutter and it actually only looks like E. similis. Unfortunately you can't see the face and the arista. The pterostigma is light and long, the base of the tiba seems to be light coloured. So I agree with you.

Greetings, Volker

Thanks, Volker! Near that place I had already found a female of that species some weeks ago: https://diptera.i..._id=112959

Hi Jürgen,

Yes, that fits very well. As described, the Arista has very long hair.

Greetings, Volker
