Hello,
this little male Empididae (4 mm.) was captured (the 23 04 2024) in a city (on the bonnet of my car).
Locality Parthenay-79200-West of France.

Sorry for the deformation of the head (the proboscis is not at its place) due to a bad maneuvre in putting the fly in a box.

Iteaphila sp. was sugested .

Do you agree and Is it possible to get species with these pictures ?

If necessary I will can make a picture of genitalia.

Thank you id advance for your advice.

Regards.

Christian

Thank you very much Paul Beuk.

Here is a ventral view of genitalia showing the loop of the penis and confirming (it seems to me) your identification for Empis nuntia male.

Best regards.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
