Hello,
Here is another syrphid on ivy flower visit. It is no Melanostoma because of the yellow scutellum and the missing facial knob (at least I could not see it). Can it be a Meliscaeva, a genus still insufficiently known to me? Photographed in Berlin on 1st October.
Thanks for information, Sundew

It is Meliscaeva (=Episyrphus) auricollis.
Stephane.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
