Hello,
March 28, 2024 in the south of France.
Body length 13 mm.
On the sides of the abdomen, white and black pilosity.
I think it's an Empis male, but can you confirm and can we get to the species?
Thank you for your advice.

Could it be Empis ciliata?
Or are there any other similar species in the south of France?
I have other photos if you need additional criteria.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
