More Information about: circumscriptional name
Term circumscriptional name
Explanation Taxon name used above family-group level (e.g., order or class) which are not ruled by the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature and which are defined by the particular set of members included, not the number of species. A little used term not just relating to the early history of taxonomy but very important for theoretical reasons.
