Well, I am not a specialist in history of eating habits, but I remember to have read that before potatoes became ordinary food, people here were eating much more beans.

I am a direct descendent of Scottish wool traders, who settled in Zeeland, in the 16 century, so I am pretty sure they didn't eat potatoes.

Traced back my ancestry to some potato eating Scotsman who fled here in 1745 after the Battle of Culloden...so doesn't bode well Jorge.
