Hi,
I found this (hover)fly on August 4, 2014 on the Kahlenberg in Vienna, Austria. At first I thought it might be volucella pelluscens, but that's obviously wrong. Hope you can help me with an ID.
Best regards, Konrad

Hi Konrad, it's of the Tachinidae, Phasiinae - the abdomen looks a bit weird coloured to me, but perhaps Ectophasia?

Greetings, Eric

Hi Eric and Jürgen,
thank you for correcting me. I'm looking forward to seeing this kind again this summer, then I can make better pics...
Greetings, Konrad

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
