Is this a Cheilosia? The scutellum is partially colored, not seen that before.
Cheilosia scutellata looks similar, but antennae seem to be more flashy on this one.
Great if somebody can tell me the species.

Hi Mike,

this Cheilosia belongs to the C. longula species-group.
Three species are reported from Austria within this group (C. soror, C. scutellata, C. longula).
Among other, we must have a closer look at the anterior anepisternum to be sure what species it could be. My guess: C. soror, female.

Greatings, Helge

Very interesting! Thank you Helge!

Here is another view with a slightly different angle, brightness enhanced...

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
