Can a species be defined here?
Only this one photo available, mid June on a meadow in Vienna.

All requests are from the urban area of Vienna, if not otherwise stated.

My Diptera observations (and other living forms) can be found here, and corrections or comments over there would also be appreciated.

Hello Lorin,

Anthomyia cf. procellaris male. If I remember correctly, there are one or two very rare lookalikes, but I don't know, which species.
Best regards,
Jürgen

There are dozens of them over the warmer season every day here on a railing (only about 5 m long) over a small creek. But only males. I can't remember having ever seen a single female at that location.

Within the pluvialis-complex, the rarer species closely resembling A. procellaris should be A. imbrida and A. bazini.

In this paper dealing with the pluvialis-complex, only for *A. procellaris* it is stated that the three post-sutural black spots can be confluent, while in the others the spots should be clearly separated.
