Found this female Syrphid on a farm near Niesky, not far from the Polish border, in former East Germany. My guess re. genus: Epistrophe?
At least I was able to instill some wonder in my grand nieces; they learned to tell gender, and teach their mom that what may look waspish may just be a fly, and a pollinator to boot.

This one looks like a female Syrphus torvus.
