With the date of late June, and the color of the abdomen, can one assume Gonia picea here? Or to frame it differently, can all other possibilities be ruled out as unlikely? :-)
Found in an urban wasteland in Vienna.

All requests are from the urban area of Vienna, if not otherwise stated.

My Diptera observations (and other living forms) can be found here, and corrections or comments over there would also be appreciated.

I am not sure it is Gonia. Might very well be Pseudogonia.

First, thanks Theo. What about Pseudogonia rufifrons? Would this be an option (despite the poor image quality)?
Cheers, Lorin

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
