Hello all,
This diptera was collected in the Sierra Nevada near Mammoth Lakes, CA. My samples are largely chironomids but I wasn't sure about this one because of the lengths of the legs. I am sorry the wings are in poor condition.

Help identifying to the Family level would be greatly appreciated.

Best,
Kyle

Chironomidae, subfamily Chironominae if I judge the proportions of the legs correctly.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
