I found this beautiful fellow quietly sitting on the leaf of a lime three in Wasserbillig (Luxembourg) on the border of the river "Sauer" the 26.04.2020. This observation is part of the City Nature Challenge (Yearly citizend science action of INaturalist) where ID is just sure to species level. A collegue of mine suggests C. festiva, but having no ID litterature for most diptera and the record being important (good chances to be the first one for aour little country) I really want to be sure so I come here to ask the specialists I have confidence in. I did not know how rare records of those really are. Luckily for the insect, because otherwise I would have caught it to pin it up for the collection (I'm working for the Natural History Museum of Luxembourg). Further, as the fellow was really relaxed I think that the pictures are quite nice (I got it from several perspectifs). So if you are interested I would be glad to let you use them for your gallery.

Thank you very much bevorehand.

This is a female Ctenophora elegans.

See here an article for the identification: https://ccw.naturalis.nl/documents/Oosterbroek_et_al.,_2006.pdf

And this key is in Dutch, but has many pictures: https://ccw.naturalis.nl/documents/05_Tabel_B_Peeters_en_Oosterbroek,_2013e.pdf

I will try to fix the messages this month. We have to make some other configuration changes before software goes out of support at end of year.
