Unfortunately your post just missed the forum visit of our expert, Darwin Sumner! Try to get in contact with him, because your specimen looks a bit special. It recalls Neria commutata (see https://diptera.i...pid=375902 and the hint to commutata within), but the double dark band on the hind femora puzzles me. So I do not dare a guess, sorry! Thanks a lot, Sundew, also for pointing me to Darwyn Sumner! In fact, N. commutata seems to match quite well but the 3rd femora... Maybe he drops in again to have a look. N. longiceps I guess is out because of the lacking black color of the 3rd tibia. Best, Christian |

I'll try to be cautious here as I've recently slipped up with a Neria ID. First thing I notice is that the head is long, there is a wide occiput behind the eyes and the ocelli also start behind the eyes. That's Neria longiceps as described at http://micropezid...my/term/25 So looking for confirmatory characters from that description: 1. Thorax: Scutellum with scutellar hairs positioned in the middle (rather than at the apex). - can't see that 2. Legs: Hind femur with two black rings - true 3. Wings: Veins Sc & R1 very close together - can't see that (now I start typing a response I can't see the images anymore, hope I got that right) |

All seems good for Neria longiceps Can you let me have the detailed Lat/Long coordinates for that (use Google Earth) or even post it on iNaturalist (see https://www.inatu...tanypezids this species is not on that list yet) I'm currently trying to write an article on Calobatinae so I would be grateful for permission to use the images (though since one has to reduce the size to post here I'd prefer the originals if you could somehow send them to me) I'm also in the process of uploading European records to GBIF, amongst them are Stuke's German records (http://micropezid...fo/node/14) who had no records of it, though it is listed for Germany in Schacht, W. (2010) but that's just a checklist. |
