Hello fellow dipterists, I wonder if you can help me identify this hoverfly with yellow-furried eyes. It was found resting on a scarlet sage (Salvia splendes) leaf. I'm at the southernmost state of Brazil, near Uruguay. ![]() ![]() Thanks in advance. Edited by Miudo on 02-11-2019 18:50 |

Family Tachinidae. It must be recognizable based on head structure but I don't know it. |

Oh oops, wrong Family... Thanks, John. I was checking the Gallery just now and Peleteria ruficornis comes really close. |

I think it belongs to subfamily Exoristinae. I have some literature for Tachinidae of Central America and Patagonia, but tropical South America is a big mystery. |

As well known, I am very reluctant to comment on Neotropical Tachinidae due to lack of experience, but in this case, first, second and third impression is Exoristini. Theo |
