I am hesitant to call these chironomid because their wings lack any crossveins. Is this a valid concern, or do not all chironomid adults have crossveins? size: around 2mm location: Sierra Nevada stream id #: 2_1_b gdoer attached the following image: [168.75Kb] Edited by gdoer on 25-10-2019 21:43 |

Chironomidae, likely tribe Tanytarsini. The crossveins will be there if you look closely enough, but unpigmented. |

Makes sense. Tibia is longer than 1st tarsomer and squama is without hairs. Thanks! |

Note that in Tanytarsini, the front tibia should be shorter than the first tarsomere. Most of these individuals seem to be missing the front tarsi

The front tarsi tend to break off in Chironominae much more than in other subfamilies.
