Hi,

Could this be Lucilia richardsi? On the right mid tibia I only see 1 anterodorsal, but on the left mid tibia I see 2 anterodorsals. Palpi seem relatively dark, and cerci look narrow. I think there is a mass of curly hairs between the surstyli and aedeagus, but not sure. Do you agree?

Hello Rui,

very hairy and not sericata. I will agree with L. richardsi
the lobes of sternite 5 should be long (Rognes 1991)
I don't know why the palpi are yellowish but they appear to be infusctaed.
still, it doesn't match competitors.

Best wishes,
John

Hi John, thank you very much for your help! I attach one more picture showing sternite 5. The picture is not very sharp because the specimen is in alcohol, but I hope it gives an ideia of the size of the sternite.

Hi Rui,

I mentioned the lobes as a reference point because they are longer than L. sericata. I agree with L. richardsi. L. regalis has much more narrow cerci and sustyli. A few other 3 ac Lucilia have brown basicosta and or dark palpi which makes it easy to exclude them.

I'll attach a photo of sericata genitalia and st5 as a reference - in case you have not dissected sericata before.

Best wishes,
John

Thank you John, your photos are wonderful! It is especially clear the difference between the erect hairs in the surstyli of L. sericata and the curly hairs on my specimen.
