Unless I am very misled, this definitely looks like a female H. arpadi.
Which would be the first confirmed record from France..

@Pierre: yes, H.(ybomitra) arpadi.

@picotverd: that is even more spectacular ! It is a Siberian species !!
check https://fauna-eu.org/cdm_dataportal/taxon/e83d4075-f909-49f6-9612-c2a9a562f1c4

Would be definitely new for Spain .

I would need a clear lateral shot of the head and a dorsal shot showing the abdomen. A frontal shot of the head would help as well.

Or the specimen ....

Soory I forgot to report the new result.

The first picture is very misleading ! The palpus is actually swollen at base, but not in the pic !

this shows how necessary it is to check aberrant specimens ‘life’

Thanks

Theo

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
