Berlin - October 2017 Hello everyone, I photographed this fly around the time i photographed a Scathophaga species. I found it sitting on a leaf in the grass. I didn't get very nice photos but hopefully good enough to get a family and possible a genus. I really don't know what it could be and i am a bit tired today. From what I can see in the photos it could be an ephydrid. |

I was wondering about Ephydridae but i don't see anything similar. The wing veins seem very dark so perhaps i need to key it. Thank you very much, Jan! you are a big help.

Thank you, John I was looking at this subfamily earlier. I wish that i had a specimen because it is difficult to key. I don't see the extra bristle near the arista so i think that Setacera is out. I notice a greenish tinge to the thorax, so i wonder if it could be Paracoenia fumosa. atleast i know where to start if i get a specimen. Thank you very much for all of the help. I am happy to place this in a family and a subfamily. I am thankful for diptera.info and all of its members. We have a great community here of common interest

so i was moving the photos into a folder named Ephydrinae and i found a few extra photos. Also not very good but we can see that the haltere is brownish orange. I can also see the arista to confirm that it is not Setacera. I will definitely try to find this again. Coenia, and from the colour of the abdomen and halteres, I would say C. palustris

Hello Tony, Thank you very much for the reply. I wrote it down as C. palustris. I've not seen this before and i cannot recall seeing it since these photos.
