Hi, could this Phaonia be P. mediterranea? At first I didn't see any hairs on radial node on lower side, but looking more closely I see at least one very small hair. The key says "several setulae", which doesn't seem to be the case, but it's also not really bare. If I consider that the radial node is bare, than I end up with P. valida, except that I can't see any yellow hairs on the lower part of the occiput. What is your opinion? location: Barcelos (Portugal) date: 23/04/2019 Rui Andrade attached the following image: ![]() [146.24Kb] |

Rui, I agree with Ph. mediterranea. 1. Portugal is a proper place. 2. Should be similar to Ph. errans, as large as errans or even larger. 3. 50% specimens of Ph. mediterranea has 1(2) hairs also on dorsal side of radial node, check it. Nikita Vikhrev - Zool Museum of Moscow University |

Thank you Nikita! There is definitely one hair on the dorsal side of wing (see picture). Does this means it is P. mediterranea? The radial node on dorsal side of wing is bare in P. valida?

Yes, P. mediterranea without doubts: dorsal hair is a unique character.
