Hello,

the pictures are from April 13, 2014 taken in our garden in Hannover. The fly is appr. 4 mm long. Could it possibly be Stearibia nigriceps?

Hello Hans,

Yes it is. The colour and visible chaetotaxy leaves no room for doubt. The most widespread and common Piophilidae in the Netherlands. Commonly found on all carrion, but also on dog poo.
