I photographed this robberfly in Switserland, Tessin, near Malvaglia, at al altitude of ca 1400 m. This one is sitting on exposed soil near a small road. Surroundings with light coniferous forest and rich flowery meadows, about to be mowed. I thought this might be Machimus rusticus, in view of the small red patch at the base of the tibia, and the lightly colored bristles. Can this ID be confirmed or corrected?
