Hi there,
now that I,ve reduced the size of the picture you can see it hopefully !
I found this unknown robber-fly in the New Forest on 13th July. It was laying in the sunshine on some fencing. Size approx 20-25mm
The area is heathland with bracken/ferns on sandy soil, next to mature woodland.

Hi,

this is a Machimus / Tolmerus species. In Britain there is only Tolmerus atricapillus with such genitalia und such colour pattern of the legs.

Greetings, Danny Wolff

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
