I photographed this fly on 25/03/2016 in Still bay South Africa. Size approximately 3-4mm. The first 5 photos are of the same specimen which I suspect is the female and the last image of another specimen I shot in the same lemon tree which I think could be the male. I am unsure as to even the family of this fly. Any assistance in this regard would be appreciated. Hi Philip This is indeed a female Lamprolonchaea specimen. The only described species in this genus from South Africa at present is L. smaragdi although I have seen other un-described species from SA.
