This is a bit of a conundrum for the Gallery. I have posted lower resolution pictures named as Ochlerotatus vittiger. The recent publication (A Guide to Mosquitoes of Australia. Webb, Doggett and Russell, 2016) reduces Ochlerotatus to subgenera. Which I will be following. Could the O. vittiger be renamed in the gallery? Graham - I believe that Paul prefers that requests like this are submitted in the "Misidentifications in the Gallery" Section. And, of course if yours is changed, then all the Ochlerotatus should be changed. The matter is still a bit contentious, but I think a majority of mosquito workers are opting to revert to the pre-2000 situation where Aedes simply had lots of subgenera. It was the prospect of several dozens of newly-raised genera, many with attendant gender changes for their species names that seems to have swayed opinion.

Thanks for the advice Tony. I'll leave it to Paul to decide what to do with it. |
