Hi! I'm Daniele from Sardinia. This Asilidae is born from a dead oak (Q.ilex) branch where I was waiting for Latipalpis plana and Trichoferus holosericeum. Is it Pogonosoma maroccanum?
Locality: South Sardinia.

Thanks!
Daniele

I have no clue about the fly (Asilidae is very poorly represented here in the north), but I have to say that it is a magnificient beast!

It certainly looks like all the pictures I've seen - what a beauty!

Dear Daniele. Greetings from Fritz. No doubt, this is P. maroccanum, not so rare as P. minor. The species looks like a Solifugae from Morocco, which has the same coloration of hair (unfortunately nocturnal). Yours

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
