As indicated in my other mailings today I recently returned from co-leading my annual tour to Bulgaria where as indicated previously in these mailings my main role is as a Botanist, though I can never resist looking for interesting insects! This horsefly species, I believe Haematopota was caught at meadows above Dobrinishte, Bulgaria, 25.07.15. This is the same site from which in 2013 I caught a specimen which Theo Zeegers identified as perhaps H. latebricola.

I wonder what the specimen is caught this year? It was very active and difficult to photograph, especially for side view shots so these have been taken after death. I will attach a series of images.

Here is the first...

Many thanks as always

Many thanks Theo. It was the only one that I could find there, though still a new species to me. I will try again next year!

Very best wishes

Alan
