I collected a medium sized Eristalis spp in Shropshire on May 29. I cannot run it down to species in Stubbs and Falk, mainly becaues it has completely bare arista. It nearly fits a northern European species in van Veen's key (E. gomnojunovae), but not quite, as the facial hairs are not quite the right colour.

Hi all,
This is embarassing! My specimen is a remarkably dull Myathropa florea. I should have checked the genus instead of assuming it was an Eristalis.

Still learning after all these years!Grin
