Hello!

No, I don't mean Helophilus ;-) of which were two species very abundant today, but a house fly sized Eristalis like fly with conspicuous thorax stripes but nearly no abdominal markings. The fly visited several blossoms of Calystega sepium (don't know the exact english name, a binding weed) today here in Ostwestfalen/Germany. The most similar fly I could find is Anasimyia lineata, but this species does not have such a plain abdomen. Thanks for any hints!

Hello, Jan and Paul!

Thanks, that fits perfectly! I didn't think of that species, because I thought it would not occur here in Ostwestfalen.

Best regards,
Jürgen

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
