This was taken today in southern England on chalk downland. Is it Leptarthrus brevirostris?

I know it is probably one of the easier asilids ... but it never does any harm to get the opinion of an expert! ![]()  |

The hind tarsus of the male is an easy give-away for this species. nothing else like it in the UK. Dunno which of the chalk downs you saw it?

In 1989 I collected it on one of the Surrey chalk downs. cannot quite recall which one, though.
