Dear All,

What key should I use for the genus level in Empididae family?

Thanks,
Pierre-Nicolas

Old (some outdated names) but comprehensive for all Empididae s.l.:
Collin, J.E., 1961. Empididae. - British Flies 6: v-viii, 1-782.

More up to date for Hybotidae:
Chv?la, M., 1975. The Empidoidea (Diptera) of Fennoscandia and Denmark. - Fauna Entomologica Scandinavica 3: 1-336.
Chv?la, M., 1983. The Empidoidea (Diptera) of Fennoscandia and Denmark II. General part. The families Hybotidae, Atelestidae and Microphoridae. - Fauna Entomologica Scandinavica 12: 1-279.

General subdivision within Empididae s.str.:
Chv?la, M., 1994. The Empidoidea (Diptera) of Fennoscandia and Denmark. III. Genus Empis. - Fauna Entomologica Scandinavica 29: 1-192.

not downloaded file? Hmm?This is strange..
I can send file to e-mail
I think that this book was published a long time ago (1975), and so problem of copyright is not valid

I believe fifty years would be the official limit for the copyright, but as the series has been transferred from Scandinavian Science Press to E.J. Brill it may well be that the original publisher will have no objection to distribution for personal use. I expect Milan Chvala will not mind either.

BTW: Make sure you use the download button at the bottom of the page. Wink

Just in case: I converted the 80+MB document into a 5.5MB pdf, which can be handled more easily. Anyone interested, just let me know.

I will see if I can create one this weekend. It will be images and not text as I won't OCR the text.

PS: I edited your email address so that spambots are less likely to pick it up.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
