Hello,

I have problems to ID this Tachinidae, the thorax pattern is similar to the Exorista sp. but the wing veins are different, so I can exclude the Exorista genus. Another genus could be the Bithia genus, the wing veins look similar here.
I see the reclinate orbital setae, 4 longitudinal strips on the scutum, postpronotum with 3 bristles, 2 achrostical presutural bristles, 3 presutural dc bristles, 4 postsutural dc bristles.
Ok, I stop here and I hope someone help me to ID it.

Hi Marcello

You are way off. This looks like Microphthalma europea.
Do you have a lateral shot ?

I have never ID a Tachinidae, I'm just starting now, sorry.

That face shape is very distinctive - looks like Theo is spot-on with Microphthalma europea Smile

Yes, I could have done worse.....

Please always posts shots from more angles if available.

In a laterai shot, it needs to b e totally bad to make Microphthalma unrecognisable !

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
