Hello dear dipterists,

Is this one Volucella pellucens or is there any confusion with some other Volucella ... ?

I guess that the patch on the abdomen is very bright white ...

Shot in Les Orres, Hautes Alpes, France, 1700 m, on July 09/2013.

Thanks in advance !!

Hello Pat,

To be more precise its Leucozona lucorum. The ersembling species L. inopinata has black hairs on tergite 4. L. lucorum has, as showen here white hairs on the 4th tergite.

Greetings,
