This is the last of the fly species that I photographed on a recent tour to Romania. This very large crane fly was attracted to light at Mosorel Guest House, Magura on 11 June 2013. I am assuming that it is probably Tipula maxima but would appreciate confirmation or correction of this by someone more experienced than I am, in case there are other species with which it could be confused.

Many thanks

Hello, Alan!

Here in Germany this would be Tipula maxima without doubt (from wing markings). But I don't know, if there are other similar species in Romania.
Best regards,
Jürgen

But there is a few other species of Acutipula known from Romania, i don't know if they are similar. Do you have a good view of the hypopygium?

Many thanks Clovis

I am afraid that these and very similar are the only views that I have. I might be able to send something to you directly at higher resolution but unfortunately I do not have the specimen of this to rephotograph.

I will attach two images of the hypopygium which are the best that I can do from the shots that I have.

Many thanks
