I found this larva under a fallen branch last week, in the East of France. Is it an Anisopodidae larva ?

hard to tell, although to me it looks more like a Chironomidae (Orthocladiinae). Was the ground/branch wet or dry?

The branch was wet, due to the rain. The branch was fallen in my garden, so this is not a permanent wet zone.

Anisopodidae larvae have secondary segmentation, not evident here.

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
