Hello,

Captured at an altitude of ~ 550 m. in Cne : Anost (Dépt. Saône-et-Loire - France) on 28 V 2008
---
- The yellows spots of tergites reach the margin of abdomen, thus is not pauxillus - pinastri or lenensis etc ...
- The antennae are blackish (not pale), thus it is not venustus or hilaris.

Cordially.

Hello

He may have risk of confusion with venustus or hilaris, because of the color of antennae.
Now I found photos well identified of these 2 species in :
-- http://www.galerie-insecte.org/galerie/image/dos80/big/img_3953_2_.jpg.jpg (venustus)
-- http://www.galerie-insecte.org/galerie/image/dos86/big/dasysyrphus_hila.jpg (hilaris)
Thus I rectified my 1st message.

Cordially
Balmer

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
