Pictures were taken near Mórahalom, about 20 km. W. of Szeged, S. Hungary. Date: 12. 05. 2012. I think it may be Eumerus tricolor. Can someone confirm or correct this tentative ID? (The wether was windy and the fly was extremely shy, so the pics are pretty bad...Sad)
Thanks for any help in advance!
Henrik

I found a key for Eumerus here:

http://web.archive.org/web/20070429223255/http://home.hccnet.nl/mp.van.veen/KEYS/Eumerus/eume_key.html

The fly above keys out at E. tricolor (female), so, unless someone knows a lookalike in SE. Europe, I'll file this one under that name.
Thanks for your attention!

Henrik

You'd better put it away as Eumerus sp., van Veen doesn't cover all species in Europe, only the North west. I think there are more possibilities here.

This part of key of Séguy is sufficient (I think) to identify your Syrphidae.
The key is extracted from Mémoires du Muséum d'Histoire naturelle (Paris) - Nouvelle Série - Serie A, Zoologie - Tome XXIII : Diptères Syrphides de l' Europe occidentale - 1961

Thank you again! But, according to this key, it is still E. tricolor...

Kind regards,

Henrik
