While I'm not sure this is Sciaroidea, the creeping welts with spines combined with visible antennae are consistent with Bolitophilidae, as is the fungus habitat. To key it properly you would probably have to take inventory of spiracles.

Very interesting larva, bit not Bolitophilidae. Bolitophilidae larvae have transverse head (wider than long) and long antennae. This larva looks for me more like Sciophila or some genus of Sciophilinae (Mycetophilidae), for larvae of some genera are unknown still. Sciophila has elongate head, widened posteriorly, and long maxillary palpus. Some of them - Sciophila rufa - live inside fungus tissue and have solid integument like this larva. Some Sciophila - on surface of fungi with softer integument. Pigmentation is very beautiful.Wink

Some flies preserved in ethanol and then pinned often get the eyes sunken, how can this be avoided? Best answer: I usually keep alcohol-collected material in alcohol

Yes, dipterologists from far abroad, please buy your copy at veldshop. Stamps will be expensive, but he, the book is unreasonably cheap Smile
