Scathophagidae from northern Sweden. Collected August 15 in a bog in a pine forest. Is this Pogonota barbarata? In the key I am using many species occuring in Sweden are missing.

The Pogonota barbatas I have seen have much more prominent beards on their genae. Which key are you using?

Thanks for your input. I am using Ball (2007), Key to the British Scathophagidae. I have to admit that this is the first time I am using this key so it would not surprise me if I am totally wrong! When comparing with images in the gallery it seems that males have much longer "beard" compared to females.

This looks OK for a female barbata

Stupid! I did not consider the possibility that it could be a female!

Otherwise I think the most appropriate Scathophagid key for Northern Sweden is still Hackman (1956):
Hackman, W., 1956. The Scatophagidae (Dipt.) of Eastern Fennoscandia. Societas Fauna Flora Fennica, Fauna Fennica 2: 1-67

Thank you Gunnar! Now I have that key as well.

I will try to fix the messages this month. We have to make some other configuration changes before software goes out of support at end of year.
