This fly was about 3-4 mm in size. It was caught as it flew out of the compost bin. Again, thank you in advance for your help in identification.

Looks like a male Anthomyia punctipennis (Anthomyiidae) - this is the only anthomyiid we (Australia) have with a "drab" appearance and wings marked as such. Apparently this species is exotic, being of South American origin. It's now also found in New Zealand and South Africa. Cheers Tony Edited by DipTas on 19-10-2012 21:19 |
