Masicera is OK, but the dusting on tergites is too extended for silvativa. Moreover, there is a Sturmia spot. It reaches over to the dorsal side in Masicera (if present) and it is not as articulated as in Sturmia So this should be M. pavoniae. Very seldomly caught in the field, mostly reared from Saturnia. |

Now I can see the Sturmia spot on T4 clearly, thank you for the correction. I had wrongly assumed my first and only Masicera specimen would be the more common silvatica rather than pavoniae This one was sitting on foliage, looking almost like a Sarcophagid.
